Today Cats Protection is holding its National Black Cat Day. This campaign is an annual event aimed at drawing attention to the plight of the many black cats languishing in rescue centres all over the country. Black (and black and white) cats are often overlooked by potential adopters – most people prefer tabbies, torties and gingers. Consequently black cats can wait far longer for a new home than their more colourful cousins; and if – like me – you feel that personality should play more of a part than aesthetics when selecting a new feline friend, I’m afraid you’re in the minority
