I love this Art Deco influenced cat brooch by French artist and accessories maker, Lea Stein.
Stein is considered to be one of the 20th Century’s most notable designers of plastic jewellery. From the late sixties onwards she used a material developed by her husband, produced by layering sheets of acetate and then laminating them to form a kind of plastic sandwich. This technique allowed Stein to insert varying textures and colours into the plastic, which makes each one of her pieces unique. Lea Stein is now retired, so her jewellery is becoming very collectable.
This particular brooch – featuring a cat called Atilla – measures approximately 10cm x 4cm and is available from the Blythe Spirit Vintage UK Etsy shop for £56.43.
