These stylish cat beds are made from 100% British undyed wool, and hand-knitted by Louisa Noble, who practices the art of ‘extreme knitting’. For the uninitiated, extreme knitting is basically an up-scaled version of the traditional craft, which uses massive needles and super-thick yarn.
Louisa began her experiments in extreme knitting after spotting some giant wool at a craft fair. She asked her uncle to make some corresponding giant needles and set to work. Initially Louisa planned to create small storage baskets, but, after these were repeatedly commandeered by her cats, she caved in to feline pressure and added a cat bed to her range.
Here’s Louisa’s cat, Larry, modelling one of the mini prototypes.
And here he is inspecting the final full-sized version – which measures 45cm in diameter and is 11cm high.
The Extreme Knitting Cat Bed is available for £54.99 from Louise’s UK Etsy shop, Knitting Revolution. Also worth checking out is Louisa’s About Page, which includes some very funny photos of her three cats squeezing themselves into small extreme knitting storage baskets!
