May Giveaway! Win a Litterlocker ll – the Ultimate Cat Litter Disposal System

The lovely people from LitterLocker UK are kindly giving three lucky Cool for Cats UK readers the chance to win a LitterLocker II – the ultimate cat litter disposal system! (Find out how to enter the giveaway at the end of this post.)

litterlocker ll - ultimate cat litter disposal system

The LitterLocker II is designed to be used with clumping cat litter, and provides a convenient, completely odour-free method of storing cat poo and clumped litter for up to 2 weeks for one cat – which will save you a fair few trips to the dustbin while trying to hold a grocery bag in such a way that none of the soiled litter drops out through the safety holes!

The LitterLocker II is very easy to use – simply open the lid and drop your cat’s latest downloads into the bin, then pull the handle to allow the soiled litter to fall to the bottom of the bag, and release the handle to create an air-tight seal on the bag.

Here’s a useful video which demonstrates the whole procedure very nicely (lumps of coal are used as poo substitutes, so it’s safe to watch this if you’re eating!):

When the bag is full, you open the unit, cut the bag free and dispose of it, and then pull more film from the refill, tie a knot in the end to create a new bag and pull it to the bottom of the bin.  Each refill cartridge lasts for 2 months on average for one cat.  (Which saves an estimated 60 grocery bags.)

The LitterLocker II has a reasonably unobtrusive design, is lightweight and doesn’t take up much room – it measures W22cm x D23cm x H24cm.  It comes with a litter scoop (which sits neatly in a holder on the side of the unit) and your first refill cartridge.

I’ve never used a LitterLocker, but having read the Amazon UK Customer Reviews, I think I’ll treat myself to one – it’ll certainly be an improvement on my current Pedal Bin Liner in an Airtight Bread Bin system!

December Giveaway!

verdo cat litter               verdo cat litter

Here’s a fantastic giveaway to end the year with: your chance to win a year’s supply of Verdo cat litter!  (If your cat doesn’t use a litter tray, you could still enter the giveaway and donate the prize to a UK charity or rescue centre of your choice.)

Verdo is a premium wood pellet litter with high absorbency, good odour control and impressive environmental credentials – it’s made in the UK from FSC-approved virgin softwood, which is sourced locally to the production plants.

Cats Protection have chosen Verdo as their preferred cat litter, and it’s used in their rehoming centres across the UK – an impressive recommendation, I’m sure you’ll agree!

Verdo very kindly sent me a bag of their litter to try out – I think it’s great and so do the HQ Cats.  If you’ve not used wood pellet litter before, scroll down the page a bit and you can read my review.

So, if you’d like to win a year’s supply of Verdo (this equates to 12 x 10kg bags, which will be delivered to you on a monthly basis throughout 2013), all you have to do is leave a comment at the end of this post.  Entries must be in by midnight on 31st December 2012, and the winner will be chosen by a random draw and announced on 2nd January 2013.  This giveaway is only open to addresses within the UK.

Verdo Review:

There are currently eight cats living with me (5 HQ Cats and 3 fosters), who have a total of seven litter trays at their disposal.  I use a wood-based clumping litter in three of the trays and a wood pellet litter in the other four.  I felt Verdo out-performed the wood pellet litter I’m currently using, and it also got a resounding thumbs-up (or should that be bums-down?) from the HQ Cats and friends.

Verdo is both easy to use and economical.  Verdo is very absorbent, so a little goes a long way – you only need to fill the tray to a depth of 1cm – 3cm (I found 1.5cm to be perfectly adequate).   Unlike some other brands of wood pellet litter, which seem to crumble to dust as soon as they get damp, Verdo pellets hold their shape very well when wet, which makes them easy to scoop out of the tray; they also swell to more than twice their original size when wet, and so are simple to separate from the dry pellets.

I much prefer wood pellet litter to the granulated clay varieties.  The pellets give off a pleasant ‘woody’ smell, and so mask litter tray odours far more effectively; plus they’re non-abrasive – so won’t scratch the litter tray, and are more comfortable for your cat to use.  The wood pellets are bio-degradable, and can be disposed of on your compost heap or in your green waste collection.

Verdo is available to buy at £9.99 for a 10kg bag (equivalent to approximately 16L), which includes free next day delivery to most addresses within the UK.  Verdo donate 20p from every bag sold to Cats Protection.
