It’s common knowledge that a hot drink always tastes better when slurped from a cat mug.  So these bone china mugs from Lumme, which feature a cheeky little chap named Oscar, should guarantee that your beverage of choice will transform into nectar fit for the gods.

Beautiful Minimalist Homeware for Black Cat Fans by Jin Designs

These beautiful black cats feature on a range of minimalist homeware and bags from Jin Designs, all of which is made in the UK.  The company was started by Jinny Ursell, whose designs have a subtle, modern style aimed at people who appreciate the simple things in life.  Jinny’s lovely Sleeping Cat is inspired by her childhood cat, Mittle.  (I love it when designs are based on real cats!)  I’m not sure about  Sitting Cat‘s origins, but he/she is equally cute!

The Cat Collection by Sophie Allport – Beautiful Cat-inspired Homeware

British designer Sophie Allport has just launched her Cat Collection, which features black cats and white fish bones on a dark olive background.  The collection includes loads of lovely homeware items, a few bits and bobs of stationery and also fabric by the metre.

Prices are pretty reasonable, starting at £6 for a Cat Tea Towel, and the rather dinky Cat Egg Cosy.

The Cat Collection range is very comprehensive – 30 pieces in total – and I’ve been trying to decide which items I like best.  After much deliberation I’ve awarded the Cat Ironing Board Cover (£18.00) and the Cat Carrier Bag Holder (£8.00) the dubious honour of being My Favourites.

Not the most glamorous of objects, I know, but undeniably practical; and just you try finding alternative attractive cat versions of said objects.  It’s impossible, I tell you.  Impossible!

Probably the Best Cat Mug I’ve Ever Seen, by Amy Fenton for Arthouse Meath

It’s harder than you think to find a decent cat mug, as most designs seem to fall into the twee and irredeemably naff category.  So I was delighted when Arthouse Meath tweeted me a photo of their new Cats Mug – which (if memory serves me correctly!), is the best cat mug I’ve ever seen.

The Cats Mug features a design by Amy Fenton.  (The same design is also available on these notebooks and tea towels that I featured on Cool for Cats UK earlier this year.)  I’m a huge fan of Amy’s cat drawings – they are so beautifully quirky, and the personality of each individual cat really shines through.

The Cats Mug is made from dishwasher-safe bone china and measures 8cm diameter x 9cm high (the ideal size for tea, in my opinion).  Available from Arthouse Meath for £8.99.

All the images on Arthouse Meath products are created by adults living with severe epilepsy and learning difficulties.  For more info on Arthouse Meath, check out their About Page.

January Giveaway – Set of 4 Tomato Cat Mugs

tomato cat mugs

We all know that tea (or other hot beverage of your choice!) tastes much nicer when supped from a cat mug, and so it gives me great pleasure to announce that this month’s giveaway is a set of 4  Cat Mugs, kindly supplied by Gill Troop from her Tomato Catshop.

The mugs are crafted in the UK (The Potteries, to be precise) from fine bone china, and feature Gill Troop’s contemporary Cat Face design in shades of scarlet and orange.

If you fancy getting your paws on a set of these beautiful mugs, just leave a comment at the end of this post – it’s that simple (only one entry per person, please).  This giveaway is open to addresses anywhere in the world, but if you live outside the UK, you’ll need to pay your own postal charges in order to receive the prize.

The lucky winner will be selected by a random draw on 1st February 2013 and notified by email.  Good luck!

Gill’s cat design features on a whole range of homewares and cards, including these tea towels and hand-sewn, hand screen printed cushions.

The original inspiration for the Tomato Catshop was the lovely Coco, a gentle and affectionate tortie who ran Gill’s life for 17 years, but is sadly no longer with us.

Gill’s current animal companion, the rather dapper rescue greyhound Skozi, is an artistic dog, who loves collecting items to display on his mat – his most recent installation was a parsnip, a plastic jug and a sock!  Skozi also features in some of Gill’s work, including this hand screen printed cushion.

The other members of the Tomato Catshop gang, who feature on a variety of homewares and artworks, are Donkey – based on a resident of The Donkey Sanctuary, which is close to Gill’s home in East Devon; and Chicken – the fictional creation of art intern, Sarah.
